For most of us, learning an instrument requires an enormous amount of dedication %u2013 understanding fundamental principles and techniques before embarking upon long practices. Practicing long hours will finally reward the student with a working knowledge of the instrument. And, if they are lucky, after many years of hard work they may even become quite a masterful player. The guitar, especially, is held up as one of the more popular instruments to which people dedicate themselves. With images of musical grandeur in their heads they apply themselves night and day to the practice of guitar in the hopes of someday becoming proficient. But there are a rare few of us who can actually learn guitar by ear %u2013 an inherent skill that graces only the lucky among us.

Ultimately, you never know until you try if you can learn guitar by ear. If you are interested in taking up guitar and have a few chosen songs that you would really like to learn to play %u2013 try it out. If you play the song on a CD, those who can play guitar by ear can mimic the notes they hear on their own instruments. For those who have a working knowledge of the guitar %u2013 the ways in which to hold it and the tone that each vibrating chord makes %u2013 the possibility to learn guitar by ear is far more probable. Until you really understand the sounds that each chord is capable of making, it will be difficult to replicate the sounds you hear in your music on the strings of your guitar.

In some cases it is possible to train yourself to learn guitar by ear. Begin by learning the sounds the strings make on your guitar; really process this and hear it in your head as well as your ears. Listen to how the sounds change as you change chords and begin to listen to the music on your CDs with an ear towards those chord changes. You will soon begin to hear chord changes in the songs that you have listened to over and over without ever previously recognizing those chords. It%u2019s amazing how your ear changes once you begin to learn guitar; suddenly you are able to make those necessary correlations between the sound that your guitar makes and the sound that the guitar makes in some of your favorite songs. Pick one part of the song and begin to try it out on your own guitar; keep trying until you are able to replicate the sound. Soon enough you%u2019ll be able to piece the song together; often sounds are just repetition of the same chords.

While playing music adeptly by ear is in inherent skill, you can still learn guitar by ear if you are dedicated and single-minded in your task.

Since the guitar is probably one of the most popular instruments in the world, there are plenty of people who want to learn it. And whenever there?s a student, there?s a teacher.

It?s true that there are many guitar teachers out there who believe the only way to properly learn guitar is through a teacher. And to some extent, I sympathise with them. There?s so many ways to learn guitar nowadays, it can be hard for a guitar teacher to make a living.

Taking guitar lessons from a teacher is definitely one of the quickest ways to learn (as long as you have a good teacher) but it?s also one of the most expensive.

Now we have the internet, a large proportion of guitarists are teaching themselves to play. But the problem with learning this way is that it can be a little hit and miss. You need some structure to learn the basic foundations of guitar playing. Sometimes this is why it?s a good idea to have a few lessons from a teacher to get the basics down, before you go off on your own.

There are plenty of famous guitarists who are well known for teaching themselves how to play guitar. But if you dig a little deeper, one of the common threads that ties all these guitarists together is how they learnt to develop their ear. Back in the old days, people would learn to play guitar by listening to records and copying the sound. This is, in my opinion, very significant.

Learning by ear is pretty rare nowadays, seeing as people can just hop online and learn the ?tab? of a song. But this means they aren?t developing their ear? which is a very important part of becoming a good guitarist. It?s also quite slow and time consuming (at least at first), but if you have a true passion for guitar, you will be able to stick with it through the tough beginning.

There are also a lot of books and DVDs on the market aimed at helping you learn guitar by yourself. Some of these are very helpful, but few of them teach you ?everything? you need to know. They rarely lay a solid foundation of musical knowledge. Instead, they focus on specific styles and techniques of guitar playing.

If your goals as a guitarist aren?t highly advanced, then it?s quite possible to learn guitar by yourself. If you want to just strum a few chords, for example, you probably won?t need months of lessons.

But if you want to master guitar, then sometimes lessons are the best way to learn. Just make sure you find a good teacher who understands what your goals are.

With either option you take, never forget to develop your ear. A good ear is what separates many average guitarists from good guitarists. Just remember that scales are the means, not the end. If you ever feel like your playing is stuck in a rut, then ear training could easily be the thing that permanently lifts you out of it.

Some of the best guitarists to ever live were playing the blues. The blues are not just a genre of music, or some chords on a guitar. The blues are a state of mind that must be fully embraced before you can even think about playing the blues on the guitar. You must try to gain inspiration from some of the greats that played before you: B.B. King, Eric Clapton, and Jonny Lang.

The best way to learn how to play the blues guitar is to listen and try to emulate the best that have played before you. If you can tap into the energy that they brought to the stage while they were playing, then you will be well on your way to playing the blues.

The actual playing of blues on the guitar is not terribly difficult. However to make a wonderful piece of music is almost impossible. The basic blues rhythm goes like this: 1 andthe 2 andthe 3 andthe 4. This is also known as playing triplets. If you can play in that rhythm, then you are on your way to learning to play the blues.

Another good tip is to leave your guitar pick at home. You will need to use all of your fingers to play some strings, and mute other strings. If you use a guitar pick you will take at least two of your fingers out of action. You can get away with this when playing other types of music, but you can not get away with that while playing the blues.

One of the most important aspects of playing the blues guitar is the ability to feel the music come from your soul and pour out through the guitar. You will want to only play with your guitar, an instrument cable, and an amp. Anything else will just get in your way and can actually hinder your progress as a blues guitarist.

If you try to use many different effects while playing your guitar, then you will not be able to fully envelop yourself in the blues experience.

Many people are interested in knowing how they can learn to play the guitar. First you must be dedicated to learning about the instrument before learning how to play it. Many times a person tends to be interested only during the first few days of lessons because the guitar can be harder to learn and play than perceived

A person must have time to spend for his guitar lessons and realize that by practicing and learning the basic techniques slowly so he will know the process needed to play it and be good at it. Here are some tips for beginners on how to play the guitar:

1. A person must learn how to hold the guitar properly and correctly. A person is recognized as a guitar player based on how he holds the guitar. He must remember that when sitting the position must always be comfortable with his position and to sit leaning forward.

2. If the person is sitting on a chair, he must rest the body of the guitar on one of his legs where it is comfortable and easier to play. If the person is right-handed, it means that his right leg will be the one supporting the guitar, while those left-handed persons will rest the body on their left legs.

3. A person should focus in his fretting hand so he must place his hand where he has the nearest reach to the neck of the guitar especially when he is sitting. Remember to place the thumb of the fretting hand at the back of the neck of the guitar. The fingers should be in a curled position where they are placed above the strings of the guitar.

4. He should do different kinds of picking exercises to improve his picking ability. Do not worry about how fast you play as a beginner, what is important is to play smoothly and slowly and execute the correct notes with clarity and precision.

Playing the guitar can provide much fun for a person. Guitar playing can be easy as long as interest and dedication are maintained. A person can play the guitar easily and in many ways but is important that he is comfortable and enjoys what he is doing. As ever nothing that is worthwhile can ever be completely easy and the more you put in to your guitar practice the more you will get out of the guitar in the end.

Is it hard for you to read guitar sheet music? Well, let's do something about it right now!

Anyway, why is it so hard for many guitarists to read sheet music on the guitar?

Probably it is a question easy to answer. They haven't done anything about it.

An old used tyre leaned against the wall of a car garage can stand there for thousands of years. Why? Nobody has thought about moving it. Could it be that easy also with playing guitar sheet music? I think so.

Sometimes we consider ourselves poor sight readers or not able to read guitar sheet music at all and we think this is part of our personality. Do you think so?

Every person who wants to learn to read guitar sheet music notation properly has already taken the first step towards changing that condition, just like you have done by reading this article.

Climbing the "Reading Guitar Sheet Music" mountain starts with step one. Surprised? Well, I have been teaching guitar playing for many years and I have found that learning to play guitar is like many other activities. People, not you of course, often want to start from another position than from where they are.

I would like to suggest that we approach the sight reading assignment from two directions. First by learning to find our way around the guitar and learning the notes on the fingerboard. Secondly by learning the names of the notes on the sheet music. May I suggest a string safari on your guitar? Doesn't the job seem more interesting now?

With the conventional tuning on your guitar you will have the note E on the first open string. I guess you are aware of the fact that you can find the same note on the second string too. If you don't know on what fret you will find it you can listen your way through the frets on the second string until you'll find the note that sounds the same as the first string.

Now I will be frank and tell you that E on the second string is on the fifth fret. Maybe you have already found that out. E on the third string is on the ninth fret. Practice to play E on these different places and jump back and forth until you can find the frets without effort.

You can proceed learning more of the guitar fretboard in a similar way.

You might want to invent small exercises on you guitar fretboard, like playing all E's on all six strings until you can play them with ease or finding all C's and play them consecutively like a picking exercise or as an exercise for your right hand fingers.

Knowing the notes on the guitar fingerboard will be a great help for you, not only when playing guitar sheet music but also when you are playing by ear or improvising a solo.
